Answers to Some Common Questions

Who is ScoutsOnline.com?
ScoutsOnline is operated by both current and ex-Scout leaders
(in Washington state) and is not affiliated with the BSA itself. However, we do make every attempt to follow the principles, guidelines, and standards laid out by the BSA. This is a non-comercial free service available to all Boy and Girl Scout Troops, Packs, Explorers, etc.

How do I get a new password and username?
There can be several reason for needing a new password and/or username. Use the Contact link to email the request. Once the source of the request is verified we will issue a new one.

All of a sudden I can't access our site, what's wrong?
There can be several reasons why this happened.

1. The username or password you are using is out-dated or it expired. You will need to contact us to get new ones.

2. There was a breach in security and we shut-off all outside access to the web site.  If this ever happens a new usernames and passwords might be needed for your website. We normally contact the Leader on record in this event and give instructions about how to get back online.

What are the rules?
The first and foremost is for the protection of the Scouts themselves. It's simply never, ever, publish personal information pertaining to a individual Scout.  This means any information that someone could use to contact the Scout with. Break this rule and we will immediately shutdown the website.

The rest is pretty much common sense stuff such as: Keep the content relating to scouting, clean out old files, etc.

What should I name my Home Page?
All home pages should be named default.htm

How do I publish my site?

Information on how to publish your website

Can I get an email account for my Troop or Pack?
Yes, you can. Emails are provided to Webmasters and Leaders for Troops and Packs to contact each other with. We expect the Webmaster or Leader to be in-charge of screening the email accounts. Contact us and we will be happy to setup your email account.

What type of images can I use on my website?
We recommend keeping your images in a gif or jpg format. Your resolution should never exceed 90dpi and the images size should not exceed 350 x 350 pixels and 40KB. If it exceeds this size, it could take a half hour for the image to come up on your visitors browsers. This is not a good thing. Even a image using the maximum size could still take thirty seconds to load on slower connection speeds. So use discretion with images and web page size.
