Cubscout Camping FAQ

What should I Bring?
  • A Great attitude for fun & adventure with a desire to lead our children by example
  • Tent - with a ground tarp, tent stakes, hammer
  • Sleeping bags - mats, air mattresses, cots, pillows, blankets
  • Lawn chairs, folding chairs, camp stools, benches, folding table
  • Lanterns and flashlights
  • Insect repellant, sunscreen, personal First Aid kit, and toiletries
  • Clothes (weather appropriate)
    • extra socks, shoes, & clothes in case you get wet or muddy
    • comfortable walking/hiking shoes (avoid sandals, crocs, flip-flops, etc.)
    • Boys should have uniform for ceremonies (no neckerchief or slides)
    • Jackets and/or rain ponchos
  • Food and plenty of drinking water
    • A secure container for all food items (raccoons are very clever and hungry)
    • Cooler with plenty of ice to keep cold items cold.
    • Healthy snacks and drinks - fruits, cheese, trail mix, cereals, milk, juice, etc.
    • Paper towels, zip-lock bags, utensils, paper plates/bowls, cups
    • Camp stoves and grills (propane or charcoal/wood only)
  • DO NOT bring:
    • Pets, weapons, firearms, fireworks, or alcohol of any kind
    • Electronic devices (TV, games, radios, music players, etc.) or power generators
    • RVs, campers, ATVs, bikes, or skateboards
    • Liquid fueled stoves or lanterns (only propane fuel is allowed at Boxwell)
    • Excessive candy, junk food, chips, or caffeine sodas

 
What about campsite safety and security?
  • No running or horseplay in camp
  • Playing in tents or going inside other's tents is prohibited
  • Boys and sibling are not allowed to stay in an adults tent that is not there parents
  • No open flames in tents are allowed
  • No food or eating in the tents (unless you want ants or varmints to visit)
  • Respect the campfire - it is hazardous
    • Maintain the 10 foot clearance
    • Children must be supervised when near the fire
    • Don't throw trash or other objects into the fire
    • Only adults are allowed to tend the fire - no children or siblings
  • Always observe the BUDDY SYSTEM when leaving the campsite
  • Flashlights are always pointed to the ground - never in someone's eyes
  • Smoking and smokeless tobacco permitted only out of sight of the children
  • Always be courteous and considerate of your fellow campers
    • Don't feed or attract the animals (clean up dropped food and trash)
    • "Lights Out" means it is time to be very quiet (even in your tents)
    • Ask permission before entering or crossing someone else's campsite
    • LEAVE NO TRACE behind you
