Pack 7 Calendar 2009-2010

For a public activity such as a pack meeting, parade, or cubmobile race, a scout should wear his "Class A" uniform (blue Scout shirt, scarf, tie slide, belt, and cap). For other activities, he can wear his Pack 7 logo T-shirt. In either case, shirts must be clean and tucked into pants/shorts, which must be in good condition.

Pack meetings are usually held on the last Tuesday of each month (Sep–May), 6:30–7:30pm, at the Ivy Stockwell Elementary gym. Committee meetings are usually held on the first Wednesday of each month (Aug–-May), 7–8pm, at First Presbyterian Church.

Cubmobile Race

In September or early October, Pack 7 holds a cubmobile race. Each den has a cubmobile. Tiger Cubs can either make their own cubmobile or inherit one from a Webelos II den that has advanced. The race is run down the hill at 5th & Spartan, with approval from the town. To plan this event, see the Cubmobile Race folder.

Recruit Night

In August or September, Pack 7 holds a recruiting night at either Ivy Stockwell Elementary School or First Presbyterian Church. (This night should not conflict with Ivy's back to school night.) All den leaders should attend with the Cub Master or Assistant Cub Master, Charter Representative, and Committee Chair. If possible tables should be set up by rank with leaders of that rank standing by for prospective new scouts. The Committee Chair plans this event; see the Recruiting folder. [Make new folder]

Popcorn Sale Fundraiser

For several weeks starting in September, Pack 7 holds the annual popcorn sale fundraiser. The boys can sell door-to-door, at events such as the Berthoud Farmer's Market, or via internet ordering on the Trail's End website. Money raised from this sale is used to fund scout acitivities and leader training. To plan this event, see the Popcorn folder.

Christmas Events

In December, Pack 7 participates in one or more seasonal events such as: participating in the Berthoud Parade of Light; decorating wooden Christmas trees along Main Street; caroling with the Presbyterian Church followed by a potluck dinner. To plan this event, see the Christmas folder. [Make new folder]

Santa Cops

In December, Pack 7 participates in the Santa Cops program in cooperation with the Larimer County Sheriff's Department. This function is where we sponsor needy children within Larimer County by purchasing toys, clothes, or other items that they are in need of. The leader planning this event collects the unwrapped items and delivers them to the sheriff's dept contact or Loveland Police Department. An officer then delivers the presents to the children before Christmas Eve. To plan this event, see the Santa Cops folder. [Make new folder]

Friends of Scouting (FOS)

The Committee Chair coordinates the collection of Friends of Scouting pledges.

"When your son joined Scouting, he became a member of this Pack and a member of the Boy Scouts of America. He also became a member of our local Scout organization, the Longs Peak Council. You paid dues to our unit and you paid a small registration fee to the National organization. But it costs nothing for your son to become a member of the Longs Peak Council and to benefit from its work.

Instead of charging dues to belong, the Longs Peak council asks for voluntary contributions for “Friends of Scouting”. It costs about $140.00 per Scout per year for the Council to provide him with the Scouting program.

Friends of Scouting helps pay for Camp discounts and Free Rank advancement patches. We have a goal amount on each, but, if we make our Badge Target we will get both.

At the January pack meeting, we have a presentation on Friends of Scouting. We will hand out pledge cards which will be due that evening. Your pledge may be cash, check, Visa or Mastercard. Your pledges may also be done on a monthly installment. If you choose not to pledge, put a “0” for the pledge amount.

Won’t you make an investment in your scouts future by contributing to the Longs Peak Council? Pledge today!"

Pinewood Derby Race

In January, Pack 7 holds a Pinewood Derby race in the Ivy Stockwell Elementary School gym. This event is planned and run by Webelos II dens with a concession stand run by Webelos I dens. A derby car kit is given to each scout at the November pack meeting, and family members can buy additional kits. Two weigh-ins (to check car size and weight) precede race day and cars must be turned in at the second weigh-in.

To plan this event, see the Pinewood Derby folder.

Scout Sunday

Scout Sunday is the Sunday prior to February 8. Although scouts are not required to attend the Presbyterian Church's worship service on this date, it is nice to have scouts, their families, and leaders there. This service is for them. There is a table available at the church for items for display; see one of the members of the church for this. Pack 7 also honors a local legend in scouting, Mr. Elmer Carter, by giving out the Elmer Carter award and buying flowers for his widow, Mabel Carter. [Make folder]

Blue & Gold Ceremony

In February, Pack 7 holds the Blue & Gold ceremony. The main planners of this event are Webelo II dens. Since this is also the birthday party for Scouting which started on February 8, 1910, other dens will have a responsibility as well, as assigned by the Webelos II leaders. At this event, Webelos II scouts will cross over into Boy Scouts and other scouts who earned rank advancement will obtain it. At this function the Spark Plug and Pride of the Pack awards are given out. To plan this event, see the Blue & Gold folder.

Scouting for Food

Scouting for Food is where we help restock the local food bank, and occurs on the last weekend in February or early March. All dens are required to participate. This is one of our annual community service projects, in cooperation with the other packs and troops in Berthoud. A day or two before the pickup date, dens leave paper bags on doorsteps with a note asking for nonperishable food donations, and then on the pickup date collect the donations and deliver them to the chuch for sorting. Leaders/akelas should accompany scouts. To plan this event, see the Scouting for Food folder.

Service and Conservation Projects

Pack7 participates in other service projects and conservation projects during the course of the year.

Barrel Planting

In May, Pack 7 dens plant flowers in the barrels along Mountain Avenue. The leader planning this event works with the Berthoud Main Street Committee to find out how many barrels we will be planting in, and coordinates obtaining these plants from local sources (i.e., donations). To plan this event, see the Barrel Planting folder.

Summer Activities

Scouts can earn a Summertime pin by participating in one Scouting activity in each month of summer (June-August).
